DOGS of all shapes, sizes, breeds and colours were paraded around an arena by their proud owners at an annual dog show held as part of a village fete.

The event at Herriard Green and Pavilion attracted hundreds of people, all keen to show off their pets in the popular competition.

Categories included prettiest bitch, cutest puppy, the best six legs, in which the owner was judged alongside their pet, and an award for the dog which could sit for the longest.

Judges selected their favourites for the shortlist, before awarding first, second and third place rosettes to the winners.

Other attractions also kept the crowds entertained, including a variety of stalls selling bric-a-brac, books, cakes and plants, a tombola, raffle, drum workshop and refreshments, which were served in the pavilion.

Two donkeys were also admired by visitors at the fete, and a competition was run to guess their name.

The event raised a record £3,485, and all proceeds will go to St Mary’s Church, in Herriard.

Jenny Dunford, who helps to organise the event, said: “I think we had about 300 people here, and it was very much a success. The dog show was extremely popular.”
