RESDIENTS in South Ham and Buckskin will have the opportunity to vote on community projects that will receive a funding boost in their area tomorrow.

Projects are set to get the cash boost from the ‘Your Community, Your Choice’ grant which awards grants of up to £2,000 from Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council and Sovereign Housing Association as part of the Neighbourhood Partnership for the area.

The grant aims to assist voluntary and community organisations to deliver sustainable projects in the two areas.

The Neighbourhood Partnership brings together representatives from community associations, community planning groups, faith groups, borough and county councillors with agencies such as Sovereign Housing Association, North Hants Clinical Commissioning Group and the police to enable local people to influence and improve the quality of life for their community.

Local residents will have an opportunity to get more information on the projects and will then vote on the projects they would like to receive funding between 3pm and 7pm on January 29. The voting will be held at the Ridgeway Centre in Blackdown Close, Buckskin and the Westside Community Centre in Paddock Road, South Ham.

The cabinet member for community services at the borough council, Councillor Hayley Eachus said: “By giving the community the opportunity to vote on which projects receive a funding boost it means they get a real say in both what they need and also what they get in terms of community projects, which is at the heart of the Neighbourhood Partnership.”

Lee Dillon, Sovereign’s community investment co-ordinator said: “We are delighted to be part of the Neighbourhood Partnership and strongly support the idea that local residents should have a say in which projects should be funded to help strengthen their community and urge residents to go along to either centre to vote.”
