Basingstoke Voluntary Services to hold drop-in sessions
DROP-IN sessions for people who are interested in volunteering will be held in Basingstoke.
Staff from the Volunteer Centre will be at Basingstoke Discovery Centre, in Festival Place, on various upcoming dates to answer questions, make appointments and point people in the direction of local voluntary and community groups that need the help of volunteers.
The Volunteer Centre has experienced a huge increase in enquiries about volunteering in the community during the past five years.
Sarah Robinson, manager of volunteering at Basingstoke Voluntary Services, said: “From around 250 enquiries a year in 2008, we are now being contacted by around 1,200 people each year.
“We want to make ourselves even more available to the community, so we will be at the Discovery Centre initially on a monthly basis, and we’ll look at how we can increase that if the response is good.
“Volunteering can make a huge difference in your life; it can help improve your CV and give you a reference; you can gain skills or experience and build your confidence. You can make a difference in the community, meet people and have great fun.”
The sessions will run on September 26, October 31, November 21 and January 30 from 10am until noon. For more information, call Sarah Robinson or Vicki Harty, at the Volunteer Centre, on 01256 423850 or email@example.com.
