Basingstoke brewery Longdog teams up with the Monster Raving Loony Party to create a special new brew
A BASINGSTOKE brewery has teamed up with the Monster Raving Loony Party to create a special anniversary brew.
The Longdog Brewery, based in the Moniton Trading Estate, West Ham Lane, was specially selected by the party to produce a local ale to celebrate the fact that it has been 30 years since a candidate for the party first stood for election.
Phil Robins, the man behind Longdog Brewery, was asked by Alan Hope, leader of the political party, to create the special brew after the pair met at an event in a Winchester pub.
Phil said: “When he asked me, my first reaction was to laugh but I just thought ‘what a brilliant idea’. David Cameron certainly doesn’t have his own ale.”
Phil worked with the Monster Raving Loony Party to create the sort of taste they were after, and describes the end result as “surprisingly traditional”.
Phil has been running the brewery as a one-man operation since being made redundant from his job in telecommunications two years ago.
The ale, named Co‘ALE’ition, will be available in Mr Hope’s local, The Prince Arthur, in Fleet, and will be launched with a special event at the Basingstoke brewery on September 17, followed by another launch on September 18 at the Fleet pub.
It is hoped that it will also be available at a number of local Basingstoke pubs, and discussions are ongoing with local landlords. The special ale will also feature at the Monster Raving Loony Party’s annual conference later this month.
