Kingsclere dance school launches a charitable trust to help new Basingstoke dancing talent
A LOCAL dance school has set up a charitable trust to help talented students in their performing arts careers.
JLD School of Dancing, in Kingsclere, which is locally-owned and has been operating for over 22 years, has identified that students who achieve places at prestigious vocational schools, including The Royal Ballet and The Royal College of Music, are often unable to accept the places due to a financial shortfall.
JLD’s new charitable trust will act as a bursary fund to top-up scholarship awards for any student up to the age of 21.
It was officially launched with a Gala Evening at Queen Mary’s College in Basingstoke. The entertainment included a preview of the JLD School of Dancing’s Summer Show Around the World in 80 Minutes and all money raised went to the trust.
Hayley Pitts, the director of JLD, said: “We all get a buzz when we see our students discover their talents through participation in the performing arts.
“The trust will enable gifted students to attend vocational schools, who otherwise could not take up their places, to have this opportunity and realise their dreams.”
