PUPILS stepped back in time to ancient Egypt for a week-long history project.
Children from South View Infant School, in Shooters Way, Basingstoke, celebrated 90 years since Howard Carter discovered the tomb of 14th-century BC pharaoh Tutankhamun.
The archaeologist was empl-oyed by Lord Carnarvon to work in the Valley of the Kings and, following years of fruitless searching, he finally found the steps leading to the tomb on November 4, 1922.
Pupils at South View were given a challenge to make something related to Egypt, the results of which were displayed at an exhibition for parents to view.
Items included the pyramids, mummies and masks, which were displayed at the school on the last day of the project.
Children went to school in Egyptian fancy dress, wearing pharaoh costumes, and mummified themselves.
Trish Hamilton, history co-ordinator at the school, said: “It was brilliant. There were lots of parents who came to the exhibition and the children did some lovely work.”
During the week, Year 2 pupils visited Haslemere Museum, where there is an ancient Egyptian collection, including mummified animals and the Egyptian mummy of a 26-year-old man from 300BC.
