Capita 'very apologetic' over mistake on council tax bills sent to homes in places such as Odiham, Hook and Hartley Wintney

TAXPAYERS in Hart will receive a letter explaining a mistake on their council tax bills.

Yesterday, Hart District Council announced that a “minor error” had crept into householders recently-received council tax bills.

The error concerned the percentage increase or decrease of the parish and town council part of the bill.

Today, Geoff Bonner, chief executive of the district said Capita, a private firm that runs some of Hart’s services, had accepted responsibility for the letter.

He said: “Capita are very apologetic about this problem having arisen and have immediately accepted responsibility for it.

“Capita have agreed, at their expense, to write to all council taxpayers to explain the error and give them the correct percentage figure for the parish/town element of their bill.

“The bills will not be re-issued (re-issuing bills always leads to confusion) and people should pay the bills they have already received in the normal way.”

He added the letters will go out in the next few days.
