No one nominated for community hero awards in Hook
7:00pm Thursday 14th March 2013 in Local By Chris Gregory
ARE there no more community heroes left in Hook?
That was the question villagers were asking themselves after an annual award scheme to honour volunteers failed to attract nominations.
The village’s community awards scheme started in 2009 and involves villagers nominating one of their own who has given up their time for the benefit of Hook.
Previous winners have included Terry Rawlings, the managing director of Rawlings Transport, in Rawlings Road, and Pete Comley, for his work to establish the Hook Allotment Association.
But a meeting of Hook Parish Council heard there has been a lack of interest this year.
Clerk Anne Atkins said: “We have received no nominations at all. Perhaps nobody feels that their fellow neighbour or resident has done anything outstanding this year. Sometimes things need to fall over before everybody wakes up again.”
Members agreed to keep the awards on the agenda for the annual meeting on April 24. A revised deadline for nominations has been set for the end of this month.
