'Bus' scheme aims to get pupils walking to school
A WALKING bus has been set up at a primary school to encourage parents to leave their cars at home.
Volunteer parents, led by Sally Sellwood, at Overton Primary School, lead the bus, collecting children from a designated point in the village, with one as the conductor at the back of the line of children, and one as the driver at the front.
Those involved in the scheme wear fluorescent jackets to keep them safe on the journey to their school, in Court Drove.
Lorrie Pike, admin officer at the school, said it is hoped that more pupils will join the walking bus. She added: “We have about a dozen at the moment and there is one bus stop. We had someone from Hampshire County Council come along and draw a route plan for us. It’s about 300m from the pick-up to school.
“We are trying to get more children walking and hope to cut down the amount of traffic.”
