Ambulance fire at Basingstoke hospital

AN AMBULANCE caught fire outside the emergency department at Basingstoke hospital, moments after delivering a patient.

The engine fire took place at 8.15pm on Saturday, February 9 at the hospital site in Aldermaston Road.

Crew manager Dave Allen said: “They had just taken a patient in when someone noticed that the ambulance was on fire.

“The engine compartment was completely gutted by fire. It was a write off.”

A total of four firefighters spent 45 minutes at the scene. No-one was injured.
