THE cost of playing the National Lottery is set to double in the autumn in the first price rise since the game launched in 1994.
Camelot, which runs the draw, said the increase for a Lotto line from £1 to £2 will be offset by a rise in prize money.
The changes are due to come in the autumn, when the prize for matching three numbers will more than double, from £10 to £25, and the average Saturday jackpot is expected to be around £5 million.
Camelot said the changes will mean that at least 50 people will scoop a guaranteed £20,000 in each Lotto draw.
The move will affect those who play the same set of numbers in each draw, who will be reluctant to give them up in case of a win.
