A MAN was punched in the back and head in an attack outside Basingstoke train station.

The 39-year-old was walking in the train station complex when he was approached by a man who asked him to “take a walk” with him. The victim declined and was then punched, fell to the ground and was repeatedly kicked to the head. He was treated by paramedics at the scene for cuts to his lip and pain to his head, but did not suffer any serious injuries.

Police have now released an e-fit of a man they would like to speak to as part of their investigation into the assault at 9.30am on December 27.

It is believed the attacker ran off down a footpath next to the ramp leading to the Festival Place and The Malls car parks. He is described as white, aged in his late 30s to early 40s, of a medium build, and wearing black boots and a green hooded top, and maybe a hat.

PC Melanie Davis said: “This incident occurred at a busy time on a weekday morning so there would have been lots of people around. Did you see anything suspicious? Do you recognise the man in the e-fit image?”

Anyone with information should contact PC Davis at Basingstoke police station on 101.
