A SCHOOL sports hall has reopened following a £250,000 refurbishment.

The 33-metre-long hall at Cranbourne Business and Enterprise College, in Wessex Close, Basingstoke, was closed for five months because the roof was leaking.

It has now had extensive work carried out, including the installation of a new roof, a new heating system and a cushioned floor.

The funding from Hampshire County Council was also used to buy new sports equipment and create four badminton courts, a netball court, a volleyball court, two small basketball courts, a large basketball court and a five-a-side football pitch.

Andy Kimber, a sports teacher at Cranbourne, said: “It is just a lovely teaching and learning environment now – so fresh and new.

“To see the kids participating in schools sports lessons is fantastic.”

The sports hall can also have carpet tiles laid on the floor so it can also be used as a quiet exam room for students sitting their GCSEs, and it will also be available for the community when not in use by the school.
