A BASINGSTOKE man has been ordered to pay £265 after fly-tipping in the borough, following a successful investigation and prosecution by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council.
At Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court, Sean Warwick of Longacre Rise in Chineham pleaded guilty to knowingly causing controlled waste to be deposited on land in front of a gate just off Pitfield Lane in Silchester in March 2012.
He also pleaded guilty to not being a registered carrier of controlled waste while transporting controlled waste for his businesses or with a view to profit.
He was fined £50, ordered to pay Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council £200 in costs and a victim surcharge of £15.
The borough council’s Cabinet Member for the Environment and Climate Change Cllr Robert Donnell said: “This case sends a clear message out to fly-tippers – you will not be tolerated in this borough and you will be prosecuted.
“Fly-tipping is disgusting. It is a blot on our landscape and completely unacceptable. Added to the environmental damage, it costs the council thousands of pounds to clear up fly-tipping around the borough.”
Cllr Donnell added: “If anyone has any information about fly-tipping please contact the council on 01256 844844.”
