A TEENAGE girl has been sentenced to five years in detention for her part in torturing a Basingstoke man by pouring boiling water over him.

As previously reported in The Gazette, Tamlyn Stanhope and Keeley Brewer were locked up for eight and seven years respectively for causing grievous bodily harm with intent to Simon Christian after they and the teenager launched a brutal attack on their victim.

Mr Christian had boiling water poured on him, was stamped on, kicked, hit over the head with a fryer, and was tortured with a bottle after his trousers were pulled down. The third defendant, who also pleaded guilty to the same charge, failed to turn up to court and a warrant was issued for her arrest. The 15-year-old, who is from Basingstoke but cannot be named for legal reasons, attended Southampton Crown Court on December 4 where she too was sentenced for her part in torturing Mr Christian on July 11 last year.

The victim’s 35-minute harrowing experience was described by a judge as a “truly terrifying ordeal”. As previously reported, Winchester Crown Court heard how 33-year-old Stanhope, of Mauritius Close, Popley, Basingstoke, 18-year-old Brewer, of Oceana Crescent, Beggarwood, Basingstoke, and the 15-year-old each took different roles in the attack, with Brewer filming the abuse on her mobile phone.

The attack happened at Stanhope’s home after she claims to have asked Mr Christian to leave when he became obnoxious. Neighbours heard the attack taking place and one reported hearing Mr Christian plead: “Please don’t burn me again”.

Police officers were called to the house where they found Mr Christian in a “dishevelled state”, covered in blood. He was taken to Basingstoke hospital with lacerations to his head and badly burned, peeling skin.

Following the sentencing of Stanhope and Brewer, Mr Christian, a 29-year-old father-of-one, from Tennyson Way, South Ham, told The Gazette he will be scarred for life. He added: “I have broken both my legs before and my back, and I would rather go through that again than being burned.

“It’s a whole different type of pain. The burns were a couple of centimetres away from my eyes and that was a scary thought.”
