Mum makes plea on Inside Out for elderly drivers to re-take test
7:10pm Thursday 6th December 2012 in Local By Chris Gregory
A HARTLEY Wintney mother appeared on TV urging elderly drivers to re-take driving tests.
Patricia Colquhoun, of Harebell Close, has called for action after her 28-year-old son Neil Colquhoun died in a head-on collision on the A30 near Old Basing on March 11 last year.
The other driver, Dr Turner Waddell, who was 89 at the time, was driving on the wrong side of the carriageway.
Her story appeared on the Inside Out programme on BBC One on Monday night.

I don't think these boxes can yet detect if someone drives on the wrong side of the road but they will tell if the driver makes excessive use of the accelerator or brake, corners too fast or even drives too slow.
Other technology coming along will help avoid accidents by automatically taking control of the brakes and steering when there is danger of a accident. And other technology recognises road signs and will help prevent drivers from using the wrong side of the road.
But even with all these new safety devices cars will remain potential lethal weapons in the wrong hands and regular testing of all drivers, say every 10 years for younger drivers and then reducing intervals as we get older, should be introduced.
