A COUPLE got a shock when they returned home and found a tree had fallen on to their house.

Adam Archer, 33, of Pershore Road, Popley, Basingstoke, and his wife Emma had left their house last Wednesday morning to visit a friend.

But when they returned, they saw a Eucalyptus tree in their garden had fallen in high winds on to the roof of their home.

Mr Archer said: “We got a phone call from Sentinel Housing Association just as we were turning in to park. My wife took the call that said the tree had fallen. We opened the gate, saw it and said: ‘Yes, it has’.”

Thankfully, the tree, which split around a metre from ground level, did not damage the roof or living room window, against which it came to rest.

Mr Archer later learned that police officers had spotted the fallen tree from a path, and had alerted Sentinel staff.

He said: “I’m not too worried. I liked the tree but it did block a lot of the light from the garden.”
