A VISCOUNT has asked for permission to demolish a water tower and replace it with a house.

An application submitted to the borough council on behalf of Viscount Lymington, the son of the 10th Earl of Portsmouth, asks for permission to replace the redundant Nutley Water Tower, in Farleigh Road, with a single house within the estate in Nutley.

The proposals said Viscount Lymington intends to live in the house which he wants to build as a “legacy project – a building that will mark his stewardship of the estate in the same way the restoration of Farleigh House carried out by his father in the 1980s, the modernisation of the estate carried out by his great-grandfather in the 1930s and the other transformations carried out during the family’s 50 years at Farleigh Wallop marked previous eras in the history of the estate.”

The application said the proposals will “significantly enhance their immediate setting” and that the new dwelling would be of “exceptional architectural quality” and “reflect the highest standards in contemporary architecture.”
