A MAN has been charged following a spate of carjacking incidents in Basingstoke last month.
Joseph Butler, aged 35, from Chichester in West Sussex, has been charged with aggravated vehicle-taking, attempted robbery, robbery, dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.
Butler has been charged after the series of incidents between 7,30pm and 10pm on Tuesday, October 30. As previously reported, the first incident was on the M3 between junctions six and seven. This was followed by an attempted robbery of a car at Sony Business Park in Jays Close at 7.45pm, a robbery in Gainsborough Road, Black Dam in which a vehicle was taken and an incident where a van was stolen in Diana Close, Basingstoke.
Butler appeared at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on Saturday and was remanded in custody. He is due to appear at Winchester Crown Court on November 27.
Three Basingstoke men arrested and detained after the incidents have since been released without further action. Two of the men were aged 20 and one was aged 19.
