IT HAS already played host to some Hollywood A-listers – and now a new film studio in north Hampshire wants youngsters to get involved.

Black Hangar Studios, which is based in a corner of Lasham Airfield, has opened its doors, and hopes to attract film, music and advert producers to use its facilities.

The hangar had been leased to British company Century 21 Productions by Lasham Gliding Club, but when they left the site in July 2010, Carole Siller set up Black Hangar Studios and took up the lease.

Since then, the company has cleared the hangar and turned it into a 32,000ft film studio. The team offer to design, plan and construct sets for productions firms to use at Lasham or on location elsewhere. There is also a three-metre deep water tank, which has already been used by Scottish actor Ewan MacGregor to film scenes for his recent movie Salmon Fishing in Yemen.

Miss Siller said: “The company has evolved from another that started setting up here, but wanted to do other things. I got here and realised that this is a fantastic space to have a new studio.

“Our business is to offer studio space. There are fantastic filming locations near here, so we are hoping for companies to come to Hampshire to do more and more productions here.”

The company has just four employees, including Simon Lamont, head of design, who has worked on the Harry Potter and James Bond franchises.

Miss Siller said the company would be keen to hear from students at BCoT and Queen Mary’s College, in Basingstoke, who are interested in film production.

She said: “When we need to staff up when a production company comes, we will try and go into these places to get help as much as we can.”
