Sir.–We have just become owners of an attractive newly-built cottage in Red Lion Lane, Overton. This is to be our retirement home, and it has come as a shock to find out from your recent article that a ‘vendetta’ is alleged to be continuing over a tiny portion of land just to the rear of our boundary.
We do not know who is right and who is wrong in terms of the inches/feet that may or may not have encroached on a rather ill-defined playing field boundary. We are, however, certain that our little cottage enhances the appearance of Red Lion Lane and appears to take no viable recreational space away from the Edward Kersley playing field.
We would certainly not want our grandchildren, or any others, playing on the steep and potentially dangerous bank, just outside of our boundary, which we assume to be the subject of this dispute.
We can only hope that, in the coming weeks, common-sense might triumph over the blame game between parish and borough councils.
We would welcome the opportunity of sitting down with representatives of the parish council, the borough council and the developer to ensure that this issue can be sorted out, once and for all, so that we can live in peace in our new home.
We really don’t want to find ourselves as pigs in the middle of what appears to be a disproportionate argument. Overton is bigger than that and is, under normal circumstances, a fantastic place to live.
–Graham and Angela Gould, Red Lion Lane, Overton.
