Burnham Copse Women's Institute celebrates diamond jubilee
GEORGIAN cookery was on the agenda when a diamond jubilee was celebrated by women in Tadley.
Members of Burnham Copse Women’s Institute celebrated their branch’s 60th anniversary with a special cake, an interesting talk and plenty of visitors from other WI groups.
Jean Bonner, branch president, said: “It is incredible to think that this group started in 1952 and it’s wonderful that we have now reached 60 years.
“A lot of the ladies are widows, so as well as our monthly meetings we also hold friendship groups, coffee mornings and organise outings.”
At the celebration, the ladies were given a talk on Georgian cookery by visiting speaker Catherine Sampson.
The cake was cut by Jean and Judy Williamson, a member of the Burnham Copse group and the chairwoman of the Berkshire Federation of Women's Institutes.
Women from other local WI groups, including Burghfield, Calleva and beyond also joined the Burnham Copse women for their big celebration.
Burnham Copse WI currently has about 35 members who meet on the second Tuesday of the month at Tadley Community Centre, Newchurch Road, where the celebration was held.
