Letters to the Editor
Grateful readers
Sir.-I recently collected my pension from Brighton Hill post office and took the Number 1 bus to Gershwin Road, in Brighton Hill, at about 10am.
When I got off, I found I had left my wallet on the bus. I checked with two drivers to see if it had been handed in, but no luck.
I had just missed a bus going to town when Councillor Brian Gurden stopped and gave me a lift.
I was told it would be too soon for a driver to hand in the wallet, so I went to the police station.
As I walked in and said I had come about a wallet left on the bus, the police lady reached behind her and produced my wallet, which had my bus pass, photograph, all my money and other paperwork still in it.
A big thank you to the honest person who handed it in at the police station.
I was so happy to get it all back.
-Mr R Maynard,
Basingstoke.
Sir.-My 86-year-old mother recently collapsed at home in Hartney Wintney and her GP telephoned for an ambulance.
The ambulance arrived promptly and delivered her to A&E at Basingstoke hospital.
During her eight-hour stay in A&E, she was treated by three doctors and five nurses, and we were really impressed with her level of care.
In all cases, the staff clearly explained the reasons for each medical procedure and test and they could not have been more professional or caring.
By the time my mother was discharged, she had received a thorough health MOT in impeccably clean surroundings.
There have been so many negative stories about the NHS, and particularly our hospitals, so it is important to share a more positive story.
A big thank you to the GP, ambulance crew and all the staff there.
-Peter Welland,
