New NVQ courses available
Two new NVQs are available from the BCOT Business Unit
Two new NVQs are available from the BCOT Business Unit

THE BCOT Business Unit is delighted to announce two new National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ) - driving goods vehicles, and distribution, warehousing and storage operations.

The achievement of an NVQ means that an individual is competent to perform his or her job to a benchmark standard agreed by the industry in which they work.

Open to all, an NVQ recognises existing skills and fits in with an employee's everyday work demands and responsibilities.

If an individual needs to acquire new skills and knowledge, learning can take place in the workplace.

Free or subsidised training may be available under various Government initiatives.

The driving goods vehicles level two is aimed at employers or drivers wishing to demonstrate a higher level of practical capability than the more mechanical skills tested in a Light Goods Vehicle (LGV) driving test.

The range of units reflects practical competencies, deemed crucial by the industry, to safely and effectively operate an LGV.

These include load security, vehicle preparation, route planning and key driving skills such as driving the vehicle in restricted places.

Distribution, warehousing and storage operations is available to study at level two and three.

Level two covers the skills required across workplaces in the industry, including health, safety and security, stock storage and order processing, customer services and organisational effectiveness.

Level three includes the skills necessary for the management of sophisticated stock storage and distribution systems, as well as providing the opportunity to develop people and resource management skills.

In addition, BCOT offers NVQs in business administration, customer service, retail, care, early years, hospitality and cleaning support services.

For more information on courses offered by the BCOT Business Unit, telephone 01256 306237 or e-mail business@bcot.ac.uk
