Paul Wonnacott and Louise Wonnacott, from Vectair Systems Ltd, celebrate winning the Exporter of the Year award
Award sponsored by UK Trade & Investment
DESPITE the strength of Sterling against the US dollar, one Basingstoke company is exporting like mad.
Vectair Systems, based at Bilton Road, in Kingsland Business Park, won the Exporter of the Year award, sponsored by UK Trade & Investment (UKTI).
Paul Wonnacott, the managing director, said Vectair has sales across Europe, the Middle East and America, where it has just opened a new full service office and warehouse in Memphis.
Mr Wonnacott said: "I would profess that export is not for everybody. I think you have to look inside your own businesses to see, first of all, that you have the opportunity to maximise on your core activities and core strengths in your own markets. We did that.
"We have grasped the nettle and we took that challenge about four years ago and I'm pleased to say that we are now trading in more than 60 countries worldwide - and we are proud to be British."

Presenting the award, David Bartlett, from UKTI, said there had been some excellent entries for this category and that it was a difficult choice for the judges.
He said there is plenty of scope for British business to export around the world, particularly to China, India and Russia.
He told the audience: "I have just come back from China and it is amazing what is happening over there with the speed of development and growth in China and the opportunities for British business."
