A CARE home which support people with learning disabilities and autism has been praised for providing a ‘supportive family atmosphere’.

After an inspection last year by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), Eastrop House and Lodge, in Chequers Road has now been rated as ‘good’ overall.

Following an unannounced visit on October 9 and 10 2017, inspectors found residents were kept safe from harm and staff knew what to do to maintain their safety.

The home, run by Priory Adult Care, was rated ‘good’ in all five categories in which it was inspected on.

Samara Moore, registered manager at Eastrop House and Lodge said: “This is an excellent report and really demonstrates the great work that we do here.

“My colleagues pride themselves on building up good relationships with the residents we support, so I am glad that the rapport they have with each other is evidence in the report.

“We will continue to strive for excellent in 2018.”

The CQC inspector was told by relatives of residents the management at the home provided a good line of communication with them to ensure the best care for their family member.

The home provides accommodation and personal care to a maximum of eight people who live with a learning disability and autism and/or associated health need.

The report stated that residents were involved in the every day decistions of their care In the report, inspectors said: “There was a supportive family atmosphere at Eastrop House, where people and staff shared a mutual respect and understanding.

Referring to one client at the care home, the report added: “A visiting deprivation of liberty safeguards assessor made positive comments about the ‘tremendous progress’ made since moving to Eastrop House.

“They told us, ‘It is wonderful to see a transformation. The parents have re-found their son’.”

“She really leads such a great team and I am sure the service will continue doing brilliant things.”
