A BASINGSTOKE teenager was left disgusted after finding a piece of plastic in her KFC burger.

Sophie Meredith was enjoying a Take Five meal from the fast-food restaurant at Basingstoke Leisure Park when she noticed something unusual in her mouth.

She said: “I thought a hair was in my mouth but it wasn’t, it was a piece of cling film.”

She added: “My friend asked what I was doing because I was heaving and I pulled it out of my mouth and it was plastic. I was lost for words. I didn’t know what to say. My friend had the same meal and it put her off hers as well.”

It is the second time something suspicious has been found in a meal at this KFC branch.

In October, The Gazette reported that Jenna Howlett was horrified to find what she thought was a piece of glass in her seven-year-old daughter Kyla’s box meal (read the story here).

Sophie told The Gazette that she immediately took her meal back to the counter, and was offered two replacement burgers but said the incident had put her off her food.

The 19-year-old from Popley added: “I felt really sick. There was no manager around to speak to.”

Sophie, who was at KFC in her lunch break, requested a refund but said this was declined.

She said staff explained that the plastic was probably from the wrapping used to protect the burger buns, but said she did not receive an apology.

She added: “It’s disgraceful. I won’t be going back again.”

Janet Cox, head of health, safety and environment at KFC UK and Ireland, said the Basingstoke restaurant has five stars for its hygiene rating, adding: “We’re sorry for Sophie’s experience and would like to offer her a full refund and replacement meal. We have reminded all team members to be extra vigilant in the future.”
