DIABETES UK is holding a free foot care education workshop to tackle the high rate of diabetes related amputations in Hampshire. as part of its Putting Feet First campaign.

It is set to take place at The Ark Conference Centre, on Tuesday June 9, running from 11am to 3.30pm.

The charity has teamed up with North Hampshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Southern Heath NHS Foundation Trust, targeting people living in the area with the condition to highlight on how diabetes can cause potential problems for feet.

Figures from the North Hampshire CCG area show the number of amputations in people with diabetes is above the national average with 2.7 amputations per 1,000 compared to the England average of 2.6 per 1,000 people with diabetes per year.

Jill Steaton, south east regional manager of Diabetes UK, who will be an advisor at the event, said: “A single preventable amputation is one too many.

“This workshop not only gives people with diabetes the necessary practical advice and information about how to look after their feet, but will also help them understand what healthcare they should be getting.”

The workshop will offer practical advice and information about the importance of having an annual foot check and highlight the healthcare checks that people with diabetes should be getting from their local NHS clinics.

A buffet lunch and light refreshments will be available.

Booking is essential as space is limited.
