A PRACTICAL workshop aimed at coming to terms with sight loss is being staged in Basingstoke.

The programme of practical and emotional support will be held at Asda in Brighton Hill, between 10am and 4pm on Thursday, April 23 and Friday, April 24.

The free two-day Finding Your Feet course will be hosted by Action for Blind people and is designed to support visually-impaired people of all ages in overcoming fear of isolation and helping them adjust to sight loss.

Participants will share experiences, supporting each other in regaining confidence and independence.

It will include specialised workshops delivered by experts who have either a personal experience or a professional understanding of visual impairment.

Friends and family of those suffering with sight loss are also encouraged to attend.

Sheila Verrill, from Action for Blind People’s regional team, said: “For any person, sight loss can be devastating. In Hampshire, 6,065 people are registered blind or partially sighted and our aim is to reach as many of these as possible, giving them the support and advice they need.

“The Finding Your Feet course provides an opportunity for residents in Basingstoke and their families to share information, experiences and emotions with others in a similar situation.

Participants realise they’re not alone and that they can adjust to the challenges ahead.”
