PEOPLE across Basingstoke and Deane looking to improve their fitness can take a step in the right direction thanks to a new health walk.

The ten to 30-minute walk is designed to be slow and steady and is aimed at people recovering from long-term sickness, an operation, or with severe health problems and people wanting to regain their fitness levels and improve their health and wellbeing.

Starting at the Basingstoke Sports Centre, in Festival Place, the walk will take place on the last Tuesday of every month at 1.30pm.

There is no need to book. People should just turn up on the day and register outside the main entrance.

The town centre walk is one of a series of 18 walks taking place all around the borough supported by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council through the Walking for Health initiative – a partnership between The Ramblers and Macmillan Cancer Care.

Walks take place on different days of the week and areas covered include Overton, Kingsclere, Tadley, Baughurst, Woolton Hill, Whitchurch, Oakley, Popley, Eastrop, Basingstoke Leisure Park and Kempshott.

They offer routes and speeds for all levels of fitness and are led by a trained walk leader and have a backmarker to ensure no one gets left behind.
