A MOBILE service offering information about cancer will visit Basingstoke next week.

Macmillan Cancer Support will be in Market Square, at the Top of The Town, from 10am until 4pm on Tuesday, February 17.

A team of information and support specialists will be on board to offer support to anyone with a concern or a question relating to cancer.

They will also be spreading the word about how being physically active when you are living with cancer can help manage and prevent side effects of cancer treatment such as tiredness, pain, stress and anxiety.

Information will be on offer about various ways of keeping active, such as gardening, tai chi, or walking, which is one of the easiest ways of becoming more physically active.

Last year, research by Walking for Health found that patients diagnosed with two of the most common cancers – breast and prostate – could reduce their risk of dying by walking just one mile a day.

Mary Mountford-Lister, a Macmillan information and support specialist on the mobile unit, said: “We know how important physical activity is in the recovery and long term health of cancer patients, it can help reduce side effects, improve outcomes and prevent recurrence.

"Joining a Walking for Health scheme is a great way to get started and keep motivated, you’ll make friends, encourage each other and discover new walks near to you.”
