A NEW solar farm could be built in Wootton St Lawrence if plans are given the green light by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council.

Solar Planning Limited has submitted a planning application for permission to construct a 14, 256-panel solar farm on land south of Shothanger Works, in Shothanger Lane, Wootton St Lawrence.

The proposal is to build a five megawatt solar farm which will provide enough energy to power 1,500 homes.

The application says: “The proposed development will contribute to meeting the urgent need for renewable energy generation capacity that is clearly established in planning policy.

“Residents of Wootton St Lawrence will not experience noise disturbance during the construction phase of the solar PV array due to the distance between the application site and the residents.

“Residents may experience traffic disturbance during the construction phase as construction traffic will use the A339 to access the lane bordering the western side of the application site.”
