TYLNEY Hall has proved that it pays to be green, scooping a silver accreditation in this year’s Green Tourism Awards.

The Rotherwick-based hotel was awarded silver in the Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS), the leading sustainable tourism certification scheme in the UK.

Businesses are graded every two years to ensure high standards, and are awarded gold, silver or bronze with for being sustainable, responsible and green.

Mark Robinson, general manager at Tylney Hall Hotel, said: “We are delighted to have won the award. At Tylney Hall Hotel, we are committed to sustainable tourism and minimising damage to the environment. We take pride in being a green tourist destination whilst retaining great customer service.”

Tylney Hall was assessed by a qualified grading advisor, who graded them on energy and water efficiency, waste management and biodiversity.

To scoop the award, the hotel which is housed in a Grade II-listed building, needed to demonstrate their recycling scheme and show significant use of recycled products.

In addition, the hotel needed to show that staff are working extensively to source both local and ethical supplies, maintaining standards, minimising damage to the environment, and meeting good standards whilst providing a high quality of service.
