THE cream of the county crop in badminton descended on Basingstoke last week for an annual tournament.

The Basingstoke Sports Trust (BST) Badminton Tournament 2018 was held at Queen Mary's College on March 28 with 14 students taking part from colleges across Hampshire.

The tournament is organised by QMC's sports department, sponsored by Councillor Dan Putty who provides the winners cup while Basingstoke Sports Centre supply the medals, and is for recreational players, many of whom it is their first taste of competition.

Cup winner was Ben Saunders from Peter Symonds College while the plate winner was Soyef Uddin of Highbury College with QMC representatives Adam Hughes and Nathan Worth placing second and third respectively.

Helping run the event on the day were three students currently completing their Basingstoke Alliance school centred initial teacher training.
