MOTORSPORTS students from a college are undertaking a 13.5 mile sponsored walk on Saturday to raise money for a second racing car.

As part of the Level 3 IMI Extended Diploma in motorsport vehicle maintenance and repair at Basingstoke College of Technology (BCoT), students get hands-on experience building a race car and then maintaining the vehicle at a track during a race weekend under the guidance and supervision of motorsports lecturer David Reid.

Last year the BCoT race car took part in the Hyundai Coupe Cup with 18 students looking after the vehicle so with such a high number of students involved, a second car would give each student the chance to be involved throughout each event.

With the target of £5,000, the students are swapping driving for walking as they look to take on a 13.5 mile walk to raise money for the second race car.

Mr Reid said: “For the student’s careers, hands on experience building a race car and then looking after it at a race track during a race weekend is essential. The students get so much out of these weekends, the experience and pressures of looking after a race car at a race cannot be simulated in a workshop”.
