THE fruits of fundraising by school pupils have been presented to an Armed Forces charity.

During the summer term four Year 9 tutor groups at The Vyne School organised a charity relay race with help from Fujitsu volunteers to help raise money for SSAFA.

The event was inspired by a visit of Fraser Corsan to the school to talk about Project Cirrus in which he was attempting to break four wingsuit records in the USA, while raising money for SSAFA.

Each tutor group ran a sponsored relay of seven miles around the Vyne Road school’s athletic track, raising £750, and a celebration assembly was held at the school on Wednesday last week, attended by Tracey Morgan, from SSAFA, and David Ross, Fujitsu's chief technology officer.

Mr Corsan: “Project Cirrus set out not just break world records but to capture the imagination of the public, whilst raising awareness for SSAFA and of course much needed funds that change the lives of many.

“The Vyne school picked up the challenge and have been fantastic in raising funds to support SSAFA; I am humbled by the efforts of its pupils to raise this money and I am delighted that the project has inspired them to answer the call to action that lay at the heart of the project.”

James Grant, head of corporate and events at SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity said: “We’re extremely grateful for the incredible fundraising efforts of pupils at The Vyne School in raising an impressive £750 in support of Project Cirrus and SSAFA.”

Jim Eddie, head of school at The Vyne, added: “We have a successful relationship with Fujitsu through BITC (Business in the Community) and this is a great example of how the two of us have worked together to raise money for such a good cause.”
