AN APPRENTICE at Kingfisher Building Services, who also studies at BCoT, has been named Electrical Installation Student of the Year at the college’s annual prizegiving.

Darren Rainbow, a former full time student on the Level 1 electrical installation course, first worked at Kingfisher Building as part of his work experience programme.

During his time at the company he worked hard and quickly fitted in. When they offered him an apprenticeship, Darren said it was an easy decision.

He said: “I have always been interested in everything electrical and studying at BCoT made me realise this was definitely the career path I wanted to take.

“I really enjoyed my work placement, and when I was offered a full time apprenticeship I jumped at the chance!”

Darren received the award at BCoT for his achievements and success on the course.

He added:“I just want to say thank you to BCoT – without them I would never have got this opportunity. My journey has been incredible.”

Tracey Penny, who works at Kingfisher, was delighted for Darren and said: “When I first met Darren, he had such a positive attitude and was very keen to learn as much as possible.

“He was with us for a couple of months on work experience and over the duration, I received nothing but compliments about him.

“We wanted him to stay on as an apprentice but at the time there were no spaces.

“Eventually, a space became available and Darren was our first choice. He has all the attributes needed to have a really successful career.”
