A PLAYGROUP in Hartley Wintney has been told it needs to improve.

Oakwood Community Playgroup, in St John’s Road, was visited by Ofsted on June 2, and a report published on June 23 said it “requires improvement”.

It added: “The quality of teaching is variable, particularly in the two-year-old room, and arrangements to monitor and mentor staff are not fully effective. This means that not all children consistently receive support to make good progress.”

The last time the playgroup was visited by the education watchdog, in 2011, it was graded as “good”.

Inspector Lynne Lewington said the strengths of the playgroup which has 51 children on roll, are that “Staff actively promote healthy lifestyles for children.”

She added: “The newly established leadership and management team has evaluated the provision and set a plan in place a comprehensive development plan.”
