FAMILY was the theme of a week-long event at a Basingstoke nursery in support of a local charity.

Kiddi Caru in Beggarwood held a Family Week in recognition of its partnership with Home-Start, a charity dedicated to supporting families with young children.

The celebration included various activities including looking at families in different cultures and countries, family throughout the ages, famous real life and fictional families and even animal families.

Children’s families were invited to visit for brunch or afternoon tea throughout the week. Other activities included sports, flowerpot painting, baking gingerbread and planting.

Children also painted family portraits that their parents could buy, with proceeds going to Home-Start.

The week culminated with an Alice in Wonderland themed family fun day, complete with a Mad Hatter’s tea party, fancy dress competition, bouncy castle, raffle, tombola and cake stall, with all money raised donated to Home-Start.

Since the launch of the partnership between Kiddi Caru and Home-Start last year, almost £2,000 has been raised for the charity.

Suzanne Chilvers, nursery manager, told the Gazette: “The Family Week and fun day helped us raise funds for an extremely worthy cause, and reinforced Home-Start and Kiddi Caru’s belief that every child is unique and in need of nurturing.”
