A TEAM of inspiring BCoT Business and Enterprise students delivered a masterclass in marketing to Year 10 pupils at Fort Hill Community School.

The group comprised level three students Jessica Curtis, Nina Davey and ex-Fort Hill pupil Alice Hall.

Their lesson focussed on the importance of product branding and key elements (such as product, price, promotion and place).

As part of the lesson, BCoT students looked at some of the most well-known, established confectionery brands. They challenged pupils to consider what makes their packaging, name and appearance stand out from their competitors in shops and supermarkets.

The pupils were then tasked with designing their own product, putting what they had learnt into practice.

Sarah Price, BCoT lecturer in business and enterprise said:“It was a challenge for the Fort Hill pupils, who had to step outside of the box and think about product development and branding.

“The session also made our students come out of their comfort zone when they had to stand in front of a group of school pupils and teach a lesson – a daunting prospect for anyone!

“This really demonstrates that what BCoT students learn in college goes beyond their studies and taps into some key enterprise and employability skills.”

Wendy Moore, teacher at Fort Hill School, added: “It was great to see our pupils work alongside the BCoT students to try something new and different.

“It was also wonderful to see Alice return to school and deliver the session so professionally and with such confidence.”

The master class has since been delivered by another group of students at The Costello School in Basingstoke.
