PUPILS from a Baughurst school have raised more than £1,000 for a Basingstoke hospice.

Twelve tutor groups from the Challenger House at The Hurst Community College, in Brimpton Road, Baughurst, managed to raise £1,400 for St Michael’s Hospice, in Basingstoke.

Pupils held a range of fundraising events such as a 220-mile sponsored bike ride, a FIFA computer game tournament and cake sales.

Head of the Challenger House, Toby Keepence, said: “I was incredibly impressed with the response from the house to this challenge, not just by the staggering totals collected by each group but more by the personal self-sacrifice and the team work needed to reach these totals.”
