AN explosive lesson taught schoolchildren the dangers of gas.

Gas experts visited Merton Junior School in Popley Way, Basingstoke as part of the Get Gas Safe campaign.

Actors for the Gas Safe Register put on a play to teach children how gas can be used safely for cooking and heating, along with its dangers, such as the risks of explosions and carbon monoxide poisoning.

Russell Krämer, chief executive at Gas Safe Register, said: “By increasing awareness among teachers, children and families, we hope to see a rise in the number of people using a Gas Safe registered engineer and getting all of their gas appliances checked annually – reducing the number of preventable deaths and injuries every year.”

The campaign aims to teach people to only use a Gas Safe registered engineer, have appliances checked at least once a year and how to spot the signs of a dangerous appliance and of carbon monoxide poisoning.
