A BASINGTOKE college has been told it is meeting expectations following a review.

The Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) visited Basingstoke College of Technology to investigate and judge whether “its academic standards and quality meet UK expectations”.

A team of three reviewers, including Professor Geoffrey Elliott from the University of South Wales, carried out the inspection over three days, and found that the college, in Worting Road, is meeting expectations in the areas inspected.

These included the maintenance of academic standards of awards, the quality of student learning opportunities and the quality of information about learning opportunities.

The team identified various areas of good practice at BCoT including its responsiveness to student needs and the openness of staff.

Several recommendations were made by the QAA team, including making it clear and transparent to students the admission procedures to be accepted onto a course.

This was after the review team discovered a potential ambiguity over admissions interviews and selection.

The report said: “Although all students do receive an interview, in accordance with stated policy, this can be relatively informal and therefore its definition and role in selection may be unclear.”

BCoT principal Anthony Bravo said: “We are very pleased with the result of this QAA review, and particularly that they have chosen to highlight the positive student experience here at Basingstoke College of Technology, as it’s something we’re proud of.

“This report reflects our ongoing commitment to higher education in Basingstoke.”

The successful review means that the college can can now display the QAA Quality Mark, indicating to UK and international students that the college meets national requirements for standards and quality.
