A BASINGSTOKE college hosted a very special event to raise hundreds of pounds for Syrian refugees.

Sounds for Syria, held at Central Studio, in Queen Mary’s College, saw scores of young artists take to the stage to entertain the audience with a variety of musical genres.

A West End-style performance, interpretive dance and a spoken word performance were among the acts, along with the more traditional pop and rock performances of chart music.

The organiser of the event, Farnborough Sixth Form College student Raheem Mirza said: “I am overwhelmed with the support from the audience, artists and Queen Mary’s College for getting behind the event.”

She added: “I am certain that the efforts of everyone involved will not go unnoticed.”

The event raised a total of £607.30 and will be used to provide food, clothing and shelter for the Syrian refugees who have been forced to flee conflict in the war-torn country.
