PUPILS at an Old Basing school got an insight into the world of journalism when a reporter from The Gazette gave them a talk.
Political reporter Jessica Bave spoke to 90 Year 6 pupils at St Mary’s Junior School, in Belle Vue Road, Old Basing about her career and what a typical day in the newsroom entails.
Following a short presentation, the children asked her questions, including who is the most famous person she has interviewed, and what her favourite story was.
The talk was part of a school project called ‘Hitting the Headlines’ which has seen pupils studying journalism, learning how news reports are created and finding out about the work that goes into producing a newspaper.
Donna McGregor, Year 6 team leader at St Mary’s, told The Gazette: “Each class will become a newsroom over the coming weeks and the children hope to become roving reporters and produce a Year 6 newspaper for the rest of the school.
“Jessica’s presentation has really inspired them.”
Jessica said: “It was a pleasure to speak to the children at St Mary’s Junior School about my career at The Gazette.
"They asked a lot of thought-provoking questions which is a key quality for any future journalist.
“I hope that my talk will help them with their project, which sounds very exciting.”
