A FORMER BCoT student made a happy landing as she returned to the college to talk about her fledgling career as a cabin crew member with British Airways.

Last year, Lauren Maycock was completing her BTEC in Travel and Tourism at BCoT when she applied for a job with the airline.

Having successfully completed the rigorous assessment process, Lauren was pleased to come back and tell current students all about it.

She said: “The assessment and interview stage was really tough.

“It is designed to test how you work in a team as well as your customer service and problem-solving skills.

“Throughout the entire day, there are people making notes on everything you say or do to ensure that you are right for the job.”

Lauren gave students advice on how best to prepare for an interview in the industry, explaining the importance of research and teamwork.

She brought with her a suitcase full of training booklets which she had to review before her interview, ensuring that the students knew how complex the job really is.

Lauren also gave the students an insight into the perks of working as a cabin crew employee.

She spoke about some of the amazing places she has visited around the world such as Miami, Nairobi, Johannesburg and many more.

Jo Shea, travel and tourism lecturer at BCoT, arranged for Lauren to come in and share her experiences with the students.

She said: “BCoT offers technical courses with industry-related lecturers, giving students the best opportunity to progress into their chosen industries.

“Lauren’s experiences since leaving college were an excellent way to show our learners that our courses are preparing them for careers in the tourism industry.”
