THE 25th anniversary of a popular children’s book was celebrated by youngsters at a Basingstoke nursery.

Children and staff from Kiddi Caru Day Nursery, in Beggarwood, held a week of bear themed activities to mark 25 years since the publication of We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, by Michael Rosen.

Activities included making bear ears, decorating teddy bear biscuits and enjoying a teddy bear’s picnic.

The children also made different sensory versions of the front cover of the book, so that those children at the nursery with additional needs could also enjoy the celebrations.

The themed Bear Hunt week raised money for the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB), with each child donating £1 to the charity.

Suzanne Chilvers, nursery manager, said: “This book is one of the seminal books for children. It is absolutely adored not only by children of all ages but by parents and carers too.

“We had a really fun week and all the children and all the staff were hugely excited about celebrating this 25th anniversary.”
