CREATIVE students and their work were in the spotlight when QMC hosted the annual Film and Media Awards.

QM Hall was the venue for the event attended by more than 170 current and former students, parents, and guests from local industries who came along to see the outstanding quality of work produced by QMC students.

The evening was opened by Grant Fisher and Declan Roberts, two graduating Level 3 Extended Diploma students, who performed a rendition of Do I Wanna Know by Arctic Monkeys to their first live audience.

The talent of QMC students continued to be shown throughout the event as winners and nominees were celebrated for their dedication, talent and skills through a series of awards.

The winners included Maria Hanrahan and Stacey Willis, who received the award for Best Documentary after working over several months with local charity Helping Hands for the Blind to create an outstanding promotional video.

Lydia Smith and Victoria Taylor were recognised for their talent shown in their Hatch Warren Runners documentary, which was discovered by England Athletics and used on its website.

With visits from honorary supporters Julie Severs (Sony), Mark Brennan (Face TV) and Nick Willoughby (7 Stream Media, Film Future and Filmaking for Kids), the students were able to network with local film and television producers before and after the event to further their knowledge and interest in the industry.

The representatives also presented the students with awards.

Michael Taylor and Oliver Gillibrand received the Sony Employability Award, Alex Bulter and Jina Phagami-Pun collected the award for Level 3 Rising Star, and Remy Berne was the winner of the Level 2 Progression Award, presented by former student Tom Goddard.

The evening was a great success and Matt Hook, head of depart-ment, thanked the Film and Media team for their dedication and perseverance throughout the year, and in the build-up to the event to ensure that their students got the recognition their hard work deserved.

This event is just one of a vast range of opportunities that QMC offers students, enabling them to have their work received and appreciated by a large audience.

The college continues to ensure that the students succeed in their endeavours, by giving them the platform from which to succeed and pursue their goals.
