QUEEN Mary’s College opened its doors to Year 11 students who have a keen interest in pursuing a career in medicine, dentistry or veterinary science.

The medics’ and vets’ evening provided prospective students with an opportunity to hear from medical professionals, talking about the reality of these careers and the qualities that are looked for in applicants, and current and past QMC students who have been successful in applying to study on the relevant courses.

The students shared the secrets of their success and what they wish someone had told them when they were in Year 11.

QMC staff also talked about the unique package of support that QMC offers to students, including the Perspectives on Science qualification, work experience and interview training.

The college aims to support young people in achieving their goals and over the years they have developed considerable experience in helping their students win places for university courses relevant to medicine, dentistry and veterinary science careers.

Ex-QMC student Jacob Sen returned from Cambridge University, where he is studying veterinary medicine, to talk to visitors about his experience of studying at QMC.

He said: “I found that the teachers will always support you no matter what questions you might have or what extra resources you might need, particularly when it comes to Oxbridge interviews – the support was top notch. QMC is the best way to make the transition from school into the real world.”
