PUPILS at an Odiham school got an insight into the world of journalism when a reporter from The Gazette came to give them a talk.

Crime and Hart area reporter Chris Gregory spoke to about 40 Year 5 and 6 pupils at Mayhill Junior School, in The Bury, about his career and how to write a story.

After a short presentation, the children asked him questions, including who is the most famous person he has interviewed, and whether he found certain stories upsetting to write.

The talk was part of a school project about journalism which has seen pupils discuss current affairs, such as the Winter Olympics and the tense stand-off between Russia and Ukraine. Next month, the school will hold a tea party for villagers in the hope of attracting press interest.

Teacher Julie Baines said: “As part of the project, we have been looking at the sort of stories being covered, writing our own and then hopefully we will hold an event that is newsworthy. Some of the pupils are totally switched on with the news, particularly celebrities.”

Mr Gregory said: “It was a pleasure to speak to the children at Mayhill Junior School. They came armed with lots of questions – an important quality for any journalist.”
